Credit Card

The company that I work for organized a staff training day a couple of days ago so that they could tell us all about credit card processing and merchant accounts. I first thought that they were having a laugh with us. What could they possibly have to tell us about how to accept credit cards and about merchant account services that we did not already know? I have been working in the retail industry ever since I was sixteen, so that is going back a few years. About 24 years ago to be exact, as I only just celebrated my fortieth a few weeks back. I thought that the meeting was a silly idea and that I would not learn anything new about merchant accounts, but I was very wrong and it was a very interesting day.

We learned all about different merchant account services, that I must admit I knew nothing about. There are a lot of different merchant accounts available to companies, and every single one of them charges different credit card processing rates. There are a great variety of card processing units with phone processing, wireless processing, and internet processing. Who would have thought that there were so many choices with merchant accounts?

My company was one of the first to accept credit cards when they first started to become popular, so they have always been on top of all the ongoing changes in technology. As far as I know, we have been with the same merchant account services for years, and they have been good to us. If we ever have any problems when we accept credit cards from a customer, all we have to do is to ring the merchant account services and they are able to help us immediately. With our credit card processing terminal, we are capable of accepting all types of cards, as well as take payments over the phone or the internet. I can not imagine what we would do if we did not have a merchant account, as most of our regular customers rely on this facility. To be perfectly honest, if we did not accept credit cards, I think that we would end up losing a lot of potential buys. A lot of people are just passing though our shop, and decide to buy things on a whim because they are able to with their card. Most people these days do not carry cash around with them, so they would have to forfeit the buy if we had no credit card processing facility.

The merchant accounts presentation lasted for most of the day, and I think that all of us came out having learned a great deal about merchant account services. When I accept credit cards from now on, I will know exactly what happens as the card is swiped in the credit card processing terminal. I never knew that there was so much to learn about merchant accounts, which I must admit I have been taking for granted for quite a few years.
